Except they need to be sure the tribe names are accurate. From what I understand, the Lakota, Dakota, and Nakota are three separate nations who prefer not to be called the Sioux - it’s actually an offensive name that sprung from rivalry between the three.
My family was adopted into the Lakota when my grandfather married my step-grandmother. I’ve distanced myself from the Lakota side of things to avoid cultural appropriation issues. However, when I was little, they gave me a cassette of ceremonial songs that the tribe produced, and it said Sioux on there. I also remember our shaman referring to himself as Sioux.
